Since the holiday season, New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies say they've been “out in full force” to curtail impaired drivers in the region.

Early Wednesday morning, state police troopers in Florida stopped Middletown resident Carlos Corcino, 34, on Route 17 in Blooming Grove for a similar violation. During that stop, it was determined that Corcino was under the influence of drugs, and he was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs.

On Tuesday night, state police troopers from Wursboro stopped Maybrook resident Paul Shumanski, 59, on Route 209 in Mamakating when he committed a vehicle and traffic law violation. During the subsequent stop, it was determined that Shumanski was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Other arrests for DWI were made in Rochester, Thompson and Newburgh. Each of the motorists are facing misdemeanor charges and have since been released. All of the drivers are due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
